Profile of Takako Uno


Takako UNO, a nurse in profession, has been diving for more than 12 years. Being a marine naturalist and underwater photographer, she has traveled to a few places in the world, including Fiji, Malaysia, Indonesia, Alaska, Maldives, Red Sea, Hong Kong, Australia, Hawaii, Costa Rica, South Africa, Ecuador, Portugal, Norway, and substantially in her native country, Japan. In the summer of 1998, Takako has even ventured on an expedition to the cold water of Hokkaido (N. Japan Seas) with prominent Japanese scientists & photographers, observing and documenting marine life in the frigid Sea.

For the past years, Takako often journeys with Hong Kong photojournalist, Stephen Wong, on locations (includes documenting South Africa's Great White Sharks, Portugal's Whales & Dolphins, Costa Rica's Hammerhead Sharks, Galapagos' evolution diversities, Norway's Killer Whales, etc.) being Stephen's assistant cameraman and sometimes modeling for him. She promotes Stephen's & her own works in Japan.

Her works have appeared in Marine Photo (Japan), Marine Diving (Japan), Sphere (Japan), and Diver (Japan). Her work has been shown at "Blue Earth Exhibition" in Sunshine City, Tokyo, Japan in April 2000

"I am merely an observer of the marine environment, either with or without a camera. There is so much to see in this aquatic biosphere, and to understand the intricate relationships amongst its elements. The behavior, the diversity and the myth of the animals fascinate me immensely. I only wish I'd have more time."
