Eternal Blue

This is not another gratifying article by Sai Wong, but rather a small transcendence that I have had the opportunity to enjoy for a number of years. Hope you animal lovers and underwater photo-folks would share it with me. How refreshing it is to just jump into the turquoise sea on a hot day! Without the encumbrance of scuba tanks, regulator, weight belt and the whole lot, I feel incredibly comfortable. Similarly to those who love venturing to nude beaches and kick back, it is simply a freedom zone where I now have a mild understanding of. Liberated from the techno-craft of diving equipment, wearing only mask, fins, and snorkel, this provides me with another way to enjoy the wonders of the nature. Riding on the high seas in zodiacs, while miles away from the coastline, I often traverse the aquatic nothingness in hours and days. Scanning the horizon behind the dark shades of glasses and wide-brimmed hats, there is always the possibility of encountering aquatic animals out there. Out there in the open seas! Of course, there will be (were, have been) many days ending up seeing absolutely nothing. Percentage of this is relatively common. Or, the weather has simply turned nastily. The combination of the variables of having (a) animals, (b) no animals, (c) good weather, and (d) bad weather in nature most often do yield discouraging results. However, when in luck, the experience is simply astounding and would retain in the tiny neuro-cavity for life. I guess patience is the virtue of all! No doubt about this, indeed. Try it, my friends. Get a skin suit and slap a whole chunk of suntan lotion on all parts of your exposed body, and ride into the bountiful eternal blue sea. Everyday is full of surprises! The humble 12 images complimenting this write-up are taken in blue seas with only snorkeling gear and no underwater flashes. Each episode has a wonderful story behind. Hope to share them with you someday. Stephen Wong |
