Rowena Yue's diving story

Grown up on an island surrounded by water, I spent a large part of my childhood on beaches and in the water. I also inherited the interest in photography from my dad a long time ago. As a result, water spots and photography have always been two of my most favorite activities. Therefore, it is not surprising that I was addicted to underwater photography quickly and deeply.

I started scuba diving in 1994, and have been thoroughly enjoying it since then. Even though many people think that scuba diving is a high risk, strenuous and back breaking activity, it is certainly a relaxing and depressurizing channel for me. It also allows me to appreciate God's wonder every time I go below. Throughout these years, I have been diving in Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, Palau, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, and I believe that scuba diving will remain as my passion for a long time to come.

I began to indulge in underwater photography in 1997 as I felt it was a really a waste of not putting all those wonderful images we see onto photos. Underwater photography took me to a completely new territory in terms of my expectation and rewards of scuba diving. With a camera in my hands, my main objective for a dive is to get a good picture, the mere thought of that drives away all the tiredness and laziness. I must admit that underwater photography is sometimes very frustrating, many factors need to be all co-operating before one could capture a nice image. However, there is nothing as rewarding as coming back with a nice photo and sharing the underwater beauty with friends and family.
