Raymond Chan's diving story

Fascinated by the show on barehanded shark feeding as my first diving experience in Australia, my horror of the deep came to an end. Two years later, in 1997, I learned scuba diving and began to explore the beauty and mystery of the underwater world. I have been diving in Hong Kong, Palau, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and Papua New Guinea.

During my dive trips, I was lucky to meet many good friends who inspired me with interest in underwater photography. They were even kind enough to provide me with equipment to try taking photos in the deep. Since 1999, I took up underwater photography as my new hobby and capturing nice images became my main objective in diving.

I have to admit that underwater photography is sometimes frustrating, as there are so many factors and limitations to be considered before a nice image can be taken. However, overcoming these difficulties, learning to be patient and observing the behaviour of marine lives has broadened my horizons. Through sharing with other divers and photographers, my knowledge in photography and underwater world has been greatly enriched. The most important of all, it gives me lots of joy and my life additional splendour.
