Close encounter with Minke Whales
Photoed by Karl Lung in June 2002
From mid-June to mid-July is the "Minke Season" at the Great Barrier Reef. Althought they are the smallest whale species, most of them are still over 20 feet long. It is an unforgettable experience to see such a huge "fish" swimming closer and closer to you, sometimes to just a few feet away, curiously trying to find out what you are!
